Whiskey, Whiskey on the Shelf
This song is about whiskey - I love whiskey, so it was almost a guarantee that I would like this song. When I first saw the artist and title of this song there was no way of me knowing it would be in that jovial, powerful, early rhythm and blues style that rocks and jives. Upon hearing the first few notes of “Quiet Whiskey”, my love of this music and spirit had been renewed.
Wynonie Harris was a contemporary of Louis Prima so it must have been preordained that I would like this song but I was unaware of Harris before my friend introduced me to him, via her father. I have been investigating the catalog of Harris and I may have to do a second post on him at some point or another.
Until then, drink your whiskey and I’ll drink mine. Enjoy the tunes.
